All about Tullaview and where we started to now

Tullaview are a small kennel in Sydney, Australia, with almost 50 years of experience exhibiting, breeding and later judging, beginning in Melbourne, Victoria with Border Collies in 1975.  We have been the proud breeders of more than 30 Border Collie Champions in this time.  From the early 2000’s, we have also loved, co-owned and campaigned several Pulis and have learned much about these delightful little Hungarians over the last 20 years.  Due to space limitations, we only keep a small number of dogs at any one time, and do not breed litters regularly.  Our dogs are first and foremost our companions and much loved family pets, who also love going to dog shows on the weekends.

Whilst Border Collies and Pulis are our main passions, we have been blessed to learn about and own a few other breeds whilst campaigning them in the All-Breeds ring.  These include notably Shetland Sheepdogs, which we also bred under the Tullagale prefix, and Miniature Wire-Haired Dachshunds of which we owned and campaigned several to their titles.  The dog world has also seen our involvement and interest with Belgian Shepherds, having owned a Groenendael for a time to obtain it’s title.  Over a number of years in the late 80’s, Patrice handled a couple of imported Belgian Shepherds for Graeme Carroll.   Over the years, Courtney has handling a number of other breeds for their owners from time to time.

Courtney obtained her ANKC Group 5 (Working Dog) license, being able to judge at Championship Show level.  She is also a Junior Handler judge, having been the NSW representative on the ANKC Junior Handling Working Party and heavily involved with training of the Junior Handlers.   Owing to health, Patrice is currently not judging.

A bit more detail about Us

1975   Early in 1975 Gary and Patrice Knight purchased a puppy from Gloria & John Whyte (Crestvale Kennels), initially wanting dog for Obedience.  As we picked the ‘pick of litter’, Gloria requested that we show her and we agreed, and the story is still being written today.

1976   It was this year that saw the registration of the Tullaview prefix and breeding of the first Tullaview litter, from Serena which produced 3 champions.

1984   Saw the birth of our daughter, Fiona Maree.

1985   After a short illness, Gary died in May.

1986   It was late in this year, that saw Patrice marry Rob Smith.

1987   Saw the birth of our daughter, Courtney Ellen.

1988 – 1991   Tullaview continued to be breed litters and continued to have success in the show ring.  It was during this time, that we bred a couple of litters under the Tullagale prefix, both Shetland Sheepdogs and Borders.

We are proud to have bred more than 30 individual Conformation Champion Border Collies in this time.  These titles have been obtained in Australia and New Zealand, with several attaining both titles, and others who have earned in excess of 1000 challenge points during their respective show careers, many of these dogs picking up Best In Show (All Breeds and Specialty) and Royal In Show awards along the way. Tullaview Border Collies have additionally had much success in the Obedience ring, with many also attaining titles in this discipline. We are incredibly proud of the legacy that our Border Collies have contributed to the breed in Australia and abroad.

1992 – 2006   After an absence of almost 15 years from breeding Border Collies, we were thrilled to return in 2006 to this lovely breed with the arrival of a very special girl, Aust Ch Tullacrest Devil InPrada. Since this time we have been blessed to share our home with several special Border Collies, and even more blessed to share the journey with those who have welcomed a Tullaview Border Collie into their family!
